There was an ass.....

It was only a matter of time. I have been pressured and bullied for "too much of a long time" to get this online somehow. Here it is. Everyone on it should be embarrassed.

Between the covers

The greatest covers of all-time: (My opinion counts this time, bitches....)

- "Movin' On" By Ashley MacIsaac (original by Hank Snow)
Who else (besides Kid Rock) is going to take a squeaky old country tune and turn into a Techno/Rap-Metal fusion?

- "Boys in the Hood" by Dynamite Hack (original by N.W.A.)
My favorite part is "Started talkin shit, wouldn't ya know? So I reached back like a pimp and I slapped the ho"

- "Detroit Rock City" By The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (Original by Kiss)
Kiss could never make a studio record. The Bosstones showed em how it is done.

- "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" By The Barenaked Ladies (Original by Bruce Cockburn)
This is my second favorite BNL tune (Brian Wilson is #1) I like the piano in it.

- "Rusty Cage" by Johnny Cash (Original by Soundgarden)
I didn't give a shit about Johnny Cash before this song came out... I thought he was just another country singer. This guy did "old guy doin' new covers" right. Fuck you Pat Boone.

- "Gloria" by Patti Smith (Original by Van Morrison)
The Doors did a cover of this song and that was good too... Pretty much anyone who covers this song is going to rock it. It's so fun. The clip was taken from her performance on SNL back in the 70s.

- "Walking with a Ghost" by The White Stripes (Original by Tegan and Sara)
I heard the cover before I heard the original. I think both of them are good. This song turned me on to Tegan and Sara. I have never seen pictures of them but they sound cute. I could be wrong. I was wrong about the singer in Sunshine State. Jesus Christ, eat something. You are so underweight that your hair won't grow any longer!

- "Maybe Tomorrow" by The Antics (Original by A Well Trained Dog)
Just kidding.

Youd Shouldn't Need to Laugh

Corky is a shitty name. That's why I thought that "Life Goes On" was such a pile of shit. I can only imagine what should have happened in real life...
DOCTOR: I have examined your new-born boy and and I am happy to say that he is perfectly healthy. We have also determined that the baby has Down's Syndrome. You both are excellent parents and I think that you'll both be able to provide the special care necessary and be able to nurture the boy and have him live to his full potential. What are you going to call him?"
PARENTS: Corky.
DOCTOR: Get the fuck outta this room! You should be ashamed of yourselves. Kids are cruel ya know. It's going to be hard enough having to grow up with Down's. You are going to call him Corky now and make sure he never has any friends? I'm calling the cops.

This is how it plays out in my head. I laugh at myself.. kinda like Jimmy Fallon. Did he ever do a sketch without laughing? People say he was the funniest performer on SNL in years but I don't think you would have laughed at a lot of his sketches if he didn't bust out laughing during his lines and make everyone else in the sketch laugh.
Check out this tune. We played with these guys at a battle of the bands once... It was like, their first or second ever show. They played one song twice because they didn't know any more. Not very good when you are playing a 6 song set. I think they still won... They are that good. Good bands can do that and get away with it.

How much did you pay for your Rock n' Roll Lifestyle?

I'm in Corner Brook. My work brings me here. I don't think I'd ever be here otherwise. I am far too careless to try going down that fucking mountain over there. If I was in band though, I would come here and play. They like bands here.
The thing is, I AM in a band. We just haven't
played a gig in about 3 years. We got together and jammed back before Xmas with the intention of playing a show during the holidays but much like the million other bands trying to stage a comeback, it fizzled early in its stages.
This is not the first band I was in. Since high schoo
l, I have been trying to get a piece of the giant hash block that is rock stardom. This dream has all but been disassembled. I'm 27. Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin were ALL dead at 27. This is my year to die of Rock n' Roll excess. My rock n' roll excess now consists of drinking too much Crown Royal, singing "You may be right" By Billy Joel at the Grumpy Stump via Karaoke then going home, passing out and pissing the bed.
I moved out of my apa
rtment last week (I'll speak more on that in a future post) I stumbled across a few cassette tapes in a closet. Once I found something that I own that plays cassette tapes, I turned a few of them on to hear what was on them. After hearing a couple of mixtapes of songs that I haven't heard in a long time I came across an "Underground Chaos" tape. People who are old friends of mine will recognize the name immediately. This was the band I was in during High School.. Yes. This was the actual name. We later renamed the band "Coilhead" but "U.C.", as we liked to be called (but no one did) as what people remember.
It sounded so shitty. Imagine the half-retarded mini-pop that sings shitty but they keep him in cause his studdering sounds like scatman. Got that? Now picture him singing "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains. This was the band.
The drummer moved to Labrador in 1997 and the band never recovered. He owned a bus that we used to drink beer and play our shitty music in. With that gone the whole band seemed pointless. I stole the dr
ummer's girlfriend. I didn't like me for a while. I'm an asshole . As this blog matures, this fact will become more evident.
Here is a pic from 1998 or 1999. It was at a battle of the bands. This was an impromptu U.C. reunion du
ring sound check.. Dennis (U.C.'s) guitarist, is playing the drums.
